The Department of Haematology (Laboratory) provides routine haematology and specialised diagnostic services to the hospital and to patients and general practitioners in our catchment area.
Over 400,000 requests for blood testing are received annually. The Haematology Laboratory provides specialised diagnostic services to support the diagnosis and management of Haematological Cancers. In addition, specialised screening for thrombophilia (congenital and acquired thrombotic disorders) is provided, in addition to Anticoagulation services.
There is close liaison with the clinical services and provision of consultative services on a twenty-four hour basis to the medical and surgical teams. Research is focused on the investigation of preleukaemic Myelodysplastic Syndromes. The laboratory is INAB accredited.
